What is AI?

Artificial Intelligence is a computer science field that creates software that mimics human thinking automates tasks and analyzes data using neural networks.

AI started in the mid-20th century with pioneers like Alan Turing and John McCarthy.

The evolution of AI can be divided into distinct phases:

Early Innovations (1950s-1970s)

The initial phase saw the development of rule-based and expert systems that emulate human decision-making.

Early projects like the Logic Theorist and General Problem Solver were foundational, though limited by the technology of the time.

The AI Winter (1970s-1980s)

Despite early breakthroughs, progress, known as the "AI Winter," stalled during this period due to unmet expectations and a lack of significant advancements.

Renewed Interest (1980s-2000s)

The field was revived with techniques like neural networks and machine learning.

Practical applications began to surface in speech recognition and natural language processing. The rise of the internet provided the data needed to fuel these advancements.

Deep Learning Era (2000s-Present)

From the 2000s to now, exponential growth in AI capabilities has been seen, mainly through deep learning.

These systems, inspired by the structure of the human brain, excel in complex tasks like image recognition and natural language processing, driving innovation across industries.
